Big Island Hawaii: Kīlauea volcano
I spent the first part of June on the Big Island in Hawaii, After flying into Kona on the west coast, we spent a few days on a coffee plantation, then went to the south shore Puna District, were we spent a week at the Ramashala Yoga Retreat. The Ashram was a stone’s throw from the black sand beaches that define the south Island. The Puna district is often referred to as the wild west by residents.
The energy center of the south shore is the Kīlauea volcano and it’s lava flow that runs into the Pacific in a dramatic firey plume. We made several pre dawn ventures to the lava tube over the ocean, the highlight being the night I was able to backlight the volcano with the full moon.
