I was in LA last weekend visiting my friend Leon and got to take in some really good music including Jon Brion at the new Largo. The hightlight of the weekend was the Rock Paper Scissors show at the Santa Monica Museum of Art. Among the participants were Mike Watt, Lee Renaldo (and Sonic Youth), Gibby Haynes, Ron English and Raymond Pettibon. I also meet Craig Stecyk of dogtown and the zboys fame and got to talk trash about the canon 5DII – ha!
..Had just seen the film Beautiful Losers with numerous references to Pettibon, who is an art icon to me, and it made sense that our society now has to make way for the next generation in institutions like art and music.
here’s a short video from the canon 5DII:

On 16 Jan I shot an assignment for Rolling Stone covering Scott Weiland and the first date on his current tour. Rarely without controversy I found him to be a pretty nice guy, albeit a little tardy to his own show. Also got to meet Doug Grean whose music projects include The Crystal Method of which I am a fan… not to mention Paz de la Huerta. I was able to take my newly acquired canon 5DII through the ringer shooting all of the shots without flash, with iso speeds up to 5000.
You can see the rolling stone sideshow here and some additional photos here
